It was a shock to see that 1 in 3 children don't own a book - if I'm honest, I find it hard to understand that statistic!
Research also showed that parents don't get to spend as much time as they like reading to their children - I can understand this, I'm lucky to be in a position where I can currently be a stay at home mum while my children are small - if I'd returned to my previous career, I couldn't imagine having the same amount of reading time, it would be impossible. With my husband being the one out working the long hours, he doesn't always get to read to the children every day as sometimes he isn't home before their bedtimes and I know he misses story time. But when he is, he not only reads but also makes up amazing stories - he really is the best at making up stories! One of my lovely readers will be lucky and win a set of six treasured tales ladybird books from the National Literacy Trust and McCain Smiles. (If you don't win, you can collect free books via the McCain Smiles campaign)
